Trapped at home with nothing to do? Try being trapped in a room with seemingly no way out instead. Trapped Escape Room Singapore is aptly named as you’re being led into a room filled with hidden clues and mysteries with the door locked behind you. An exciting way of escaping reality (pun intended), Trapped’s escape room experience will provide you with a thrill and a rush of adrenaline.
What is an Escape Room?
An escape room is a dedicated room that is usually designed with a specific theme, in which players are locked in to play a game in order to find their way out. In a race against time, players have to uncover secret clues and solve puzzles and challenges to find the last ‘key’ that unlocks the room. Working as a team, the game is won when players make their way out of the room before the assigned time limit.
Trapped Escape Room is equipped with the latest animatronics and high tech gadgets that bring their escape rooms to life. Trapped takes inspiration from horror films such as Dracula, Jigsaw and A Quiet Place for their themed escape rooms. Currently, Trapped offers 5 different rooms including Jigsaw, Carnevil, 28 Days of Night, A Quiet Place and Hide & Seek. These themes are regularly switched out every few years for other horror films that are trending.
A Challenging Escape Room Experience
Luckily for Giftano, the team was able to experience Trapped Escape Room’s unique escape room at their newly revamped location at The Cathay. So without revealing too much, here’s how our escape room experience for 2 went!
Located on the basement floor of The Cathay, we were greeted by Trapped’s feature wall that showcases all the available themed rooms they offer. We made our way inside and were promptly welcomed by Syaz, one of Trapped’s experienced members of the staff. With a huge smile on her face, she introduced herself to us and got us ready for the most exciting and challenging escape room experience!
The Briefing
If you’re giving Trapped Escape Room a try, be sure to arrive at least 15 minutes beforehand for the briefing. We were told that we would be trying the most popular escape room, the Hide & Seek escape room. This escape room is based on the 2016 film, Don’t Breathe, where three friends are trapped inside a blind man’s house while breaking into it. Taking a scene from the movie, this escape room also involves an NPC or live actor which adds to the tension and suspense. With a time limit of 75 minutes, this is one of the longest escape rooms available at Trapped!
We were then briefed on the dos and don’ts of the escape room, including what can or cannot be moved as well as to be careful so as not to damage the property. If we ever get stuck at a particular puzzle, there will be an intercom phone in the room where we can give the Trapped staff a call. The game master will also be watching our game via security cameras, and they will give us a call if they see us struggling. However, due to the game master handling multiple games at once, it’s best to give everything a try first before deciding to call for a hint.
There are some things to keep in mind if you’re attempting an escape room at Trapped.
- Be sure to wear comfortable clothing and footwear as there may be some crawling involved.
- As most of Trapped’s escape rooms are horror-themed, the lighting usually stays on the dimmer side. Do not panic and run in the dark as it may lead to a nasty fall.
- Brace yourselves for a jumpscare or two. Some scares are more subtle than others by using flickering lights, eerie music and scary props.
With the briefing done, it’s time for the best escape room experience in Singapore!
The Experience
We were led into a small room towards the back of the compound. Opening the door for us, Syaz waved us goodbye and wished us good luck before locking the door behind us, leaving us to fend for ourselves.
Stuck in this dimly lit room with posters on the walls and other props laying around, we were lost and confused. Not knowing where to start, we glanced at the timer slowly counting down the minutes. We scrambled to different parts of the room to find the first clue. As first-timers, we took quite a bit of time to find it and we quickly reached a roadblock. Not knowing what to do next, we quickly gave Syaz a call using the intercom phone for a hint.
With a helpful hint, we were able to find the second and third clues when the lights started flashing red. We can’t reveal what happens after this point, but there was plenty of screams and nervous laughter. The Escape
Finishing up the last clue, we quickly input the pin code that unlocks the door just 5 minutes before the time is up. Freedom at last! Syaz greeted us at the door and asked us about our experience. As the adrenaline starts winding down, we can definitely say we truly enjoyed our experience at Trapped Escape Room. Our teamwork could absolutely be better, but it was an eye-opening experience that helped us bond even more. We can’t wait to try another escape room together and experience what the other themed rooms have in store for us!
Escape Room Tips
After an eventful day at Trapped, here are some of the tips we learned that would help you especially if you’re a first-timer like us!
1. Be sure to search the room thoroughly.
This includes the walls, ceilings and even under the floor mats. Try opening up anything that can be opened. However, if it doesn’t budge, it probably isn’t a clue and you should refrain from using excessive force or you’ll end up damaging the prop.
2. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
The game master is only a call away. You are entitled to unlimited hints throughout the game. Although you should really try everything you can think of before calling as it might ruin the mystery of the game.
3. Don’t forget to look back.
Don’t get too overly excited when you find the answer to a clue. Store the information aside as you might need to reference previous clues again later.
4. Keep track of the time.
Try not to spend too long on one puzzle. Pace yourself and try splitting any task within the group so that you can get more done in one go.
5. Play as a team.
There’s a reason why escape rooms are best played in groups. Take everyone’s suggestions into account instead of trying to boss them around. Communication is key in an escape room, and someone might just have the answer you’re looking for.
